KINCORTH ACADEMY SHOW CHOIR

CHOSEN TO PERFORM AT THE NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF MUSIC FOR YOUTH 2004
EUROPES LARGEST YOUTH MUSIC FESTIVALAT THE QUEEN ELIZABETH HALL ON THE SOUTH BANK, LONDON ON TUESDAY 6 JULY, 2004

Music for Youth has invited Kincorth Academy Show Choir to London to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth on Tuesday 6 July 2004.

The choir was set up in 2000 with the intention of promoting choral singing within a different format from the “usual” school choir. From the outset this all-girl choir has had a dynamic all of its own. The main goal of the choir is to produce outstanding and dynamic performances that incorporate choral singing and choreography.
Since its inception the choir has won the Paterson Gold Medal at the Aberdeen and North East Music Festival on two occasions – 2001 and 2002. It was also selected to take part in the National Festival of Music for Youth in 2002.
The present group of pupils in the choir have been together since August 2003. This makes the levels of performance achieved remarkable,
given this short period of time. The choir has also been invited to take part in the National
festival of Youth Choirs which forms part of the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe. This will take place in August 2004.
The repertoire of the group ranges from Soul and Gospel to modern R n B. No matter what the style of music the goal is always the same – dynamic and high quality performances that leave everyone feeling good !

Following their performances at 59 Music for Youth Regional Festivals this spring up to 300 groups of the nations most talented and exciting young musicians and singers have been chosen to take part in this week-long celebration of their achievements. The National Festival of Music for Youth, the largest festival of its kind in Europe, takes place at the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room on the South Bank from 5 – 10 July. Groups performing include full symphony orchestras, choirs, brass, wind, jazz and rock bands as well as ensembles of any shape and size.
