MARTIN IS TIPPED FOR THE TOP BY HEAD COACH CHIC

ANDREW MOIR

16:00 - 19 April 2005

Martin Skinner has become the latest Aberdeen kid to sign on at Pittodrie.

The former Kincorth Academy pupil has signed on full time with the Dons.

And youth development chief Chic McLelland today challenged him to make it all the way to the top with the Reds.

"Martin has got all the attributes needed to mature into a good centre back," said Chic.

"He has a great temperament and a wonderful attitude to the game which has given him a great start.

"It is all there for him and if works hard over the next few years he could go on and emulate someone like Zander Diamond.

"Zander came all the way through the system and Martin has been handed exactly the same chance.

"Other centre backs like Andrew Considine has also done really well and there's no reason why Martin can't do the same."

Martin, 16, has been training with the Dons for the past six years.

Now Chic wants the top prospect to aim for the top at Aberdeen.

He added: "Martin must keep his foot on the pedal and learn as much as possible.

"A lot will depend on his growth and development over the next few years.

"You never know how any player will turn out. "We always have high hopes for every player we take on full time.

"He's been with the club for a few years now and has progressed well through the ranks.

"Now he has got to aim for the top at Aberdeen as he will get every chance to work his way all the way through the ranks at Pittodrie."

Martin was on the bench for the Aberdeen under-19 side that lost to Dundee at Balgownie last week.
